Writing a cut-off memo operations will actually follow
A cut-off memo that only finance understands will fail by 21:00 on count night. The floor needs clock times, named docks, and a clear rule for the carton that arrives while scanners are already live.
Put times on every movement type
Separate receiving, shipping, store transfers, and customer returns. For each, state the last document number or timestamp that belongs in pre-count stock, and where post-cut-off goods physically sit.
Name the returns cage
Returns that sit on a sorting table get counted twice or not at all. Assign a labelled cage and ban informal piles beside the packing bench for the freeze window.
One radio channel for exceptions
When every captain invents a side chat, cut-off breaches vanish. We ask clients to keep a single exception desk — often a folding table near the mezzanine stairs — with one Datasyncsuite observer logging times.
Test the memo on the prior shift
Hand the draft to the supervisor who will work the night before count day. If they cannot restate the freeze in one sentence, rewrite it.
